 lymph nodes
Author: vitoclarinet

I've had them before on my neck and now they came back again. I was wondering if you get lymph nodes from playing on a clarinet that's too filthy or dirty. My parents think that it's the instrument causing me to have them( and besides I don't really clean them often so they do have a point) but I don't know much so anyone with knowledge please help!
I thank you in advance

You could be straining your neck muscles when you play. Try to relax and if you don't have a private teacher, you should get one because they can help you with relaxing and all the other basics.

And... you should probably start cleaning your clarinet anyways because it will help your tone, intonation, and it won't look gross.

Good luck!

Lymph nodes are always present as they're part of the lymphatic system, but they can get enlarged and noticable (not visibly) due to an infection.

Do you wear earrings? (this isn't a pervy or stupid question)

Some people with pierced ears can get enlarged lymph nodes in their neck as there's always the chance the piercings can get infected, so keep any earrings and piercings clean.

Unfortunately infection is not the only cause of enlarged lymph glands. If the enlargement persists you should seek medical opinion in order to exclude more serious (but in a young age-group less common) conditions.

Sorry vitoclarinet but I had to laugh when I read that you've got lymph nodes and you've had them before!

I used to have a lot of throat problems. In the end, I had my tonsils out (not as dramatic as you think!) and more recently, my wisdom teeth (again, not so serious, I was playing within 5 days).

See your doctor! Right now! Until you do, you really don't know what's going on and so can't do anything about it, and not even clarinet playing is more important than your health.

@Chris P,
no, I do not wear earrings and besides my ears are not pierced. But I will take that into consideration anyways since I was planning to get my ears pierced

And to all others,
thank you so much for all your help. I'm cleaning out my clarinet at the moment and I know this is way off-topic but I was wondering what can happen to you if you don't keep your instrument clean. Can you get a sore throat by playing on an unclean clarinet? I know my questions are hilarious and nonsense but please do help me! After all, I've just started playing the clarinet and do not have much knowledge.

Thanks,
vitoclarinet

A piece of hygeine advice: if you ever get a cold sore on your lip, use reeds you can bear to part with, then throw them away and disinfect your mouthpiece.

vitoclarinet
What can happen to you if you don't keep your instrument clean?
Your clarinet can become a science project. You may even discover a new lifeform.
Regards,
Hans
