I was wondering if you all could give me some information about the following orchestra pieces, what are the clarinet parts like, whether there are extra parts (Eb, bass, etc)?
Beethoven 5
Mahler 6
Rite of Spring
Dvorak Cello Concerto
Thanks!

Beethoven: 2 clarinets in Bb. changing to C clarinets in the finale. Not technically difficult, but a modicum of exposed solo and duo passages. Especially bitchy "pp" repeated staccato solo high A's at the end of the scherzo.
Mahler: 1st and 2nd in Bb/A. 3rd in Eb/D. Bass in Bb/A. Lots of puissant solo work in basscl part--especially with A transpositition. Very rewarding to play!
Stravinsky: 1st & 2nd in Bb/A. 3rd in Bb doubling basscl 2. Eb/D clarinet part w/probably more exposed and difficult solo passages than Clar.1 part! Bass clarinet 1. part must have scared players to death when it was first performed! Very rewarding part, but requires intensive study and preparation.
Dvorak: 2 A clarinets; lovely writing for the clarinet--many solos obligatto with the solo cello.
Practice!

Thank you for the information!
On the Stravinsky: Eb/D? Is that a regular Eb part? Does it need to be transposed?

The D clarinet parts for Rite of Spring are transposed in Peter Hadcock's book Orchestra Studies for Eb Clarinet ...GBK
