 What is the Klezmorim Forum?

I only just discovered the Klezmorim Forum right now, and I'm wondering what it is and how it's different from the clarinet board?

Hey there Nick,

I think we're still wondering about this...

Just see Mark's posts about "Looking for a Leader."

I've seen it as a specialty board which initially focussed (sp?) solely on Klezmer stuff, but after a posting querying the use of G clarinets in Klezmer, I felt more comfortable posting my comments on "folkclarineting" (my own personal term...lol!) here.

So...the answer is...there is currently no specific answer because Mark has been pondering shutting it down. I kind of like the idea of transferring these discussions to the main board too...but it's Mark's baby so I figure it's up to him. I'm willing to help here all I can, but since I don't play Klezmer myself (but DO play Balkan etc...) I'm not sure what's a-happening...

xoxo,
Katrina

The Klezmorin Forum was originally created because there is a significant number of Klezmer players out there. Nate Zeien asked me to create a BBoard and he'd publicize & run it.

Well, as Nate found out, it takes a lot more time than anyone realizes to create a BBoard and keep it moving - they don't quite run themselves, and nate didn't really have the time. The Klezmorim board has languished and as a result I'm pretty much ready to shut it off ... however ...

There's really a need for specialty Bboards like this, even though there might only be a few postings a week. However, it still has to be publicized and linked to from other places - and run as a BBoard by someone who'll review the postings on a daily basis and keep things more or less on track.

That's ok Nick...don't feel dumb...

Klezmer is a type of music generally seen as "Jewish" music. The word "Klezmer" actually means both the type of music and the musician in Yiddish. It's secular Jewish music (I believe) typically from Ashkenaz Jews (i.e. Eastern European).

Listen to recordings by Dave Tarras, Naftule Brandwein, and (yes even him) Giora Feidman. They'll give you a great idea of what older Klezmer clarinet sounds like. For more contemporary stuff, go for the Klezmatics. Oooooh I love them!

Katrina

p.s. Mark when you say "linked to from other places," do you mean that someone else has to have a website to help you out with this? I might have the time to read the posts, etc., but I don't have any real web presence at all... (and I really don't know anything about html...LOL!)

No, Kat, it needs to have other places "point" to it so that its popularity risies a bit. If someone searches for "Klezmer" on Google it'd be nice to have this BBord on the 1st page, and only links from other places to here will get it to that point.
