 Looking for a leader ...

This BBoard is almost dead ... if someone doesn't start picking up the ball and running with it I think may just put it to rest.

Any volunteers to get things going again? Someone has to publicize it and get it on track - we can rename it if need be to something that appeals to a broader segment than just Klezmer if that makes sense.

Exactly what do you need, Mark? I've palways found stuff here to be of interest, but for a long while I didn't realize there were two separate discussion boards.

Maybe a board dedicated to non-classical/jazz clarineting?

I've got nothing specific in mind, just ask my friends how indecisive I am...

But at any rate, email me...let me know what exactly you'd need...

Judging by the many misplaced postings that end up here instead of on the regular board, I suspect that many people don't understand what klezmer or klezmorim means. While some of us could use this space to extensively post educational information about the subject, how many people would actually browse it, based upon how many people are posting, and therefore probably browsing it now?

I think the cause of klezmer, or Eastern European ethnic clarinetting would probably be better served by posting on the regular board. More people would see it and wonder what the heck we were talking about. What harm would there be in closing this board? We could still post on the other board.

There were plenty of good clarinetists playing Klezmer music at KlezKamp two weeks ago. We just have to get them looking over here.

Given that, I don't know why people aren't looking here. My last couple of postings have gone unanswered.

Moving this forum onto the main page, and putting some explanatory text at the top, might help alleviate confusion.

Also, maybe you could get some other Klezmer sites, like livingtraditions.org, to link to this forum.

I will try to find out where other people look for information. This may give us some insight. Or not.

Regards

Mark,
It's what I've been saying for a long time: Klezmer needs to come back into the mainstream.
Best wishes for 2003!

It might be easier to put the folk stuff back on the main board. I play some Eastern European, and I almost never check here. I really think of it as Klezmer, which means I don't think of it as Greek or Bulgarian.

Ginny,

I think that the broader scope has happened as a result of my discussions here. Someone had asked about a G clarinet, and since I have one, I answered. I couldn't comment on its use in Klezmer since I don't play Klez, but a more general discussion about the use of clarinet in all eastern European stuff ensued. I think before I got here it WAS all Klezmer! LOL!
