Sort of like "shove", or "hit". To give something a "zets" is to make it move, figuratively and / or literally.

My grandfather used to shake his fist and playfully say, I'll give you a zetz and a chamallya (whatever that was). But you just figured that it meant a good whoopin'.

zetz is a yiddish word which in the Weinreich dictionary means to hit, punch, push etc. To give one a zetz in fresser is to slug someone in the mouth. To give your drink a little zetz is to add a shot from a seltzer bottle. In Toronto Canada, there was an old-time seltzer company called "zetz". One may wonder if the English term "zest" comes from the same root. Do not confuse zetz with zitz which means "sit" or zits which of course refers to acne pimples. Hope this helps -LMS

Possibly. Yiddish is mostly German (in dialect), with liberal doses of Hebrew and Russian, and a certain amount of Turkish, Arabic, and English, and a sprinkling of the romance languages, so I've been told (don't ask me for a reference:-).
