Some upper register problems with Bass Clarinet
Author: Justin
Date:   2001-11-16 21:40

I find it extremely difficult to hit any note above the 1st G natural over the break on a bass clarinet. Is there something I've been doing wrong all along?

I have taken to a shop to do a basic look over and they found nothing wrong, so I'm fairly certain that there's something wrong with the way I'm attempting to play these notes? Any suggestions?

Try a low C bass this problem seems to exist mainly on low Eb horns and especially the Yamaha/Vito instrumets. I played an old King Tempo plastic bass this morning that was not nearly as bad as the others. A bass clarinet specialist showed me once some tricks with the reed position years ago and also tongue position.
