 Shankar Tucker Clarinet Modifications

Shankar Tucker is a clarinet player who performs Indian music; now, somewhere, I'm sure I've read that he modified his clarinet, in some way, to facilitate easier bending of notes.
Can anyone direct me to the source of this info?

In this YouTube video he says he uses a soft rubber material in place of conventional pads:
