 Looking for a C clarinet
Author: mcpilot

I have been playing for a Greek Band here in the US. I actually play keyboard, and am kind of the utility person for the band. I can play a few of the instruments...

I am looking for an inexpensive C clarinet. I have Bb clarinets right now, and it is a pain to transpose with them....

Where is a good place to find one? eBay does not have any right now.... I see some advertised as Bb and C? What is that? Are they able to be converted Bb to C?

FYI the Greek clarinetists usually play a simple system or Albert system.

There's something about the way the intervals sound in hijaz mode on them!

It usually depends on the song in addition to the singer (if it's vocal) due to pitch/key requirements.

Bb, C, and G are the three most common, and I'd guess that Bb is by a slight margin more used than the C or G. C is slightly more common than G also...but it really depends on the musicians.

Jim Stoynoff in Chicago plays all three relatively commonly but IIRC, he uses Bb the most.

Hi again McPilot:
I play Albert C, ALL the time.
Bass on the Greek Turkish Clarinet Forum has two or three C Albert (simple system) klarina for sale on the classified section.
Good luck.

Hi, Ralph Katz:
Which one do you have? You got me curious!!
By the way, doesn't Omar of the "Doctor's" products now have a Forte C in Boehm system. I think GBK reviewed those clarinets a while back. I think I saw that the C is about $750 or a bit more??

I'm posting again because I've been listening to Jim Stoyanoff's recordings again and I'm going to correct what I said above.

I'm not at all certain which clarinet he uses most!

No idea at all.

Katrina

He used an Amati G Albert in Manchester, Michigan in May 2009, with a pickup mounted in the barrel (can supply the maker's contact information in Athens, Greece.)
