hi, I have been looking into getting a Yamaha piccolo. Either the YPC-30(marching piccolo) or the YPC-32(marching/concert w/ the split E mechanism..but its more $) Well anyways, I was wondering if there is really a difference between the marching piccolo and a concert piccolo, and also 'from what I have heard' the split E mechanism on a flute really doesnt make that much of difference(I have a YFL-261 w/o the mechanism and I see no difference) but does the mechanism make a difference on the piccolo?? Thanks in advance! ;)

There is a difference from a marching and a concert piccolo. It has been a while since i have shopped for piccolos but i think the difference is that the marching piccolo is made to be louder and more perecing and penitrating to carry the sound further. and the concert piccolo is more mello and made to blened with the the band. I have a piccolo with a split e i dident ask for it i just happened to have one, lol. In my opinion if you are going to be paying more for an instrument with a slpit e don't get it. It don't help at all. Eccpecialy on piccolo. The only thing that will help with piccolo is your apeture and breath support. Also if you are going to be useing the piccolo for both marching and concert band you might think about getting the marching/concert piccolo. But they are useualy plastic. If you are going to be playing the piccolo only in marching band then get a marching piccolo. they are useualy metal. If you are going to be playing the piccolo in only concert band they get a concert piccolo. they are useualy wood. The wood ones are generaly more expencive but have a much better sound. If you are going to be playing the piccolo outsite at all DO NOT GET A WOOD PICCOLO!! I would highly recomend to get a wood piccolo. unless you must play it out side then go with a plastic one. Oh.. don't forget make sure to play test the instrument that you are going to buy. make sure it has a sound that you like, don't just look at a catalog and say this looks good and its cheap or something like that becuase it will most likely be one you will regret getting in the long run.

I hope this helps.
