Well if you aint playing in a very advance band then to get an idea of the parts you will face later on bassoon just take a look at the tuba parts, since the Bassoon is also in C.

Well this frequency in the occurence of flat sharp problem aint really a problem. If you wanna dedeicated yourself to the instrument you really have to put quite a lot of effort. I switched from clarinet to oboe and the difficulty at first hand didnt push me off. And now i don't think its anymore difficult than the clarinet, and the clarinet is definitely more difficult for me now. Haha.
How difficult it is, simply depends on how good you want to be.
