There have been previous threads on West Side Story. I know how the standard orchestration breaks down in terms of the reed books, which book has the lead parts, but what about the alternate orchestration? The one that is:
REED 1 ALTO SAXOPHONE , Bb CLARINET , FLUTE , PICCOLO
REED 2 ALTO SAXOPHONE , Bb CLARINET , Eb CLARINET , FLUTE , PICCOLO
REED 3 Bb CLARINET , FLUTE , PICCOLO , TENOR SAXOPHONE
REED 4 Bb CLARINET , BARITONE SAXOPHONE , BASS CLARINET
REED 5 BASSOON
Is Reed 1 the primary flute book, reed 2 the lead clarinet book? What about those oboe and English Horn parts that are essential to the original?
Am booked to do the show in April. Have been waiting almost 40 years for the opportunity. Should have the book(s) this week, and am guessing we are doing the alternate orchestration.
So any information will be appreciated.
