Skip the Rubank...just get the Weissenborn Complete Method. It's all the bassoon book you'll ever need and then some. It starts with "This is a bassoon, this is how you put it together, and this is what a whole note looks like" and progresses through to the most insane virtuosic etudes you could possibly imagine.
