hi,
i bought a hite premier mouthpiece because i knew i would be doing some outdoor playing and i was wanting to get a vandoren but am confused on with one(so many models!) does anyone know which vandoren mouthpiece has the most similar opening to the hite premiere? much thanks

The Hite Premier has a tip opening of approximately .043 inches or 1.0922 millimeters ...GBK

A 5RV Lyre might be what you're looking for -- same tip as your Hite.

Dont have a Hite, dern it, but the 5RVL and 11.6 are my current favorites.

The 11.6 gets its moniker because of the 1.16 tip opening. I prefer mouthpieces in the 1.14-1.15 range. I use a Greg Smith #1, but I don't know the tip opening, for a more "concert" sound. I'll get on his site and look it up. With my other instruments (Selmer BT/CT) I use a LeBlanc Marcellus M13 which has a 1.14 and a K15L which has the 1.15.

thanks guys,
i went on the vandore site and looked at some of the charts. but i have another question. what do you think about 2 tones and profile 88? if i were to buy a 5rv lyre would it be worth getting a 2 tone?

Hi,
5RV Lyre seems to be a quite reasonable choice.
It is very used by french clarinetists and particularly recommended for beginners and advanced students because of its very easy playing.
A very classical and serious choice. B45 is the other "standard" but more difficult to play.
"2 tones" is just a different looking. I don't think that there any effect on the sound. Red and Black instead of black, that's all.
Profile 88 is better because the MP is thinner and allows more ways to adapt with it. 90% of french clar. use prof. 88.
If you can, try several 5Rv Lyre before choosing yours. You will realize that they are all different.
