 Trying M13

About or one month ago, I discussed what kind of mouthpiece I may take with my physical charcteristics(small mouthpiece). The suggetion was M13(profile 88) of Vandoren.I ordered one to WWandBW then. I received a package a week ago(I nearly forgot I ordered one...).I was requested then on this BBS what I felt on M13.This is to report it and what I am trying.
First thing I noticed was a bigger resistance and a little unevenness(my setting was Bay medium opening mouthpiece/ Selmer 10SII*/Chadash A barrel/Rico Grand Concert#3).I sandpapered its table with a sandpaper put on the flat glass.(This is what usually do for a new mass-produced mouthpiece).I noticed evenness slightly improved but still big resistance. I sandpapered inside chanber. This made noticeably the resistance. Still I have a small problem of emitting 3rd register tones. This may come from the reed, which may be too thin for M13's tip opening.

p.s. Of course sandpapering table and chamber is not recommended to other people. I am doing it only for my fun.

It is my understanding that the M13 was designed to be used with the R13 clarinet. Using it on the Selmer may not be to the best advantage. I too tried the M13 with my Selmer Centered Tone and my R13. There was a big difference. On the CT it was really "dog" of a mouthpiece but on the R13 it was a different story. I could say the same for the B45. It plays wonderfully well on the CT but not on the R13. My Bay MOM (Kasper 13 copy) plays the best with the Selmer.

I had to cut short my previous response "due to cirumstances beyond my control", ie., wife needing a "honey do". However, I use VanDoren reeds on all my mouthpieces. I can't say what strength they are because I us aged reeds, approximately 15 yrs old, #5 strength (originally), and I work them to suit my embouchre. The M13 plays much better and is responsive on the R13. I have no problem with eveness of tone or pitch problems. I'm using a Rovner Lite ligature. It seems to be a very nice combination.

The M13 did not respond well at all on the CT Selmer. You may be better off with your original set up.

1)Strangely,my Selmer seems to match better with M13 than Bay MOM(I also have a Bay MOM(medium-opening-medium length),although I have still high note problem. As I heard older Semers had a far bigger bore sizes, its bore size may be larger than my Selmer 10SII(0.463").
2)I learned from your response not only M13 but also BAY MOM are Kasper#13 copy, and I understood why they looked so much alike. But compaared with my Kasper-cicero #13(I lost it about 10 years ago),their outer dimension seems somewhat bigger than original and the original was also cured by some heat after its blank had been heat-molded and solidified.
p.s.Since my Buffet RC matched very well with my Kasper(0.574"bore) , bore sizes may be CT>RC and R-13>10SII although bore sizes are everything to determine matching.

I found Vandoren page recommends V12 4 or 4.5 for very long lay M13.Since Grand Rico Concert thick-blank 3 is approximately V12 3.5(or V12 V3.25 more precisely),I found I should try its 3.5.Too thin reed thickness was provably the cause of too thin tones of 3rd register notes.
