 Old Pruefer
Author: Debbie
Date:   2002-02-14 16:03

I just bought an old Pruefer clarinet in high hopes of learning how to play it. It needs a really thorough cleaning as well as new pads and a new mouthpiece. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (and much needed!!)
Also, if anyone knows how to determine the age and value of a model 23114 (and how do I know if it's rubber, plastic or wood..... hmmmm) I'd like to hear from you. Wish me luck (and lots of it)!!! :o)

Pruefer made pretty good instruments. Are you sure that's a model number? It looks more like a serial number.

Dee, dont you have a Pruefer? mine is an earlier one than the 23114, ser.# 2601, a wood single body, 3/4 full Boehm, which John Butler restored for me. I'd place it as 1910-20 [it has LP and B on it], Debbie may wonder about all of this "info", we'll see/read, I guess. Deb, if its hard rubber, it should be somewhat brown-green in color, its likely not "plastic" [too early?], prob. wood if black and not greatly "shiny". Tell us more, we can prob. help. Don

Yes, I do have a Pruefer. It is wooden and is the Artist model. I don't recall the serial number right off hand though. According to the serial number list here on sneezy, it might be from about 1940.
