Hi everyone recently purchased this clarinet as it came with a mouthpiece that I had been looking for years. Has anyone ever played one of these ?
All I been able to find out about is that it’s from around 1900’s ?
Wood looks to be in good order with no crack but definitely needs oiling. Would this be worth doing an overhaul?

I've only seen an oboe made by Laube which was a German spec ring key conservatoire system. It seemed to be a fairly decent player once it had been serviced, but not in the same league as the top name makes.

Plug or seal up some of the toneholes on it so you can play a basic scale to get an idea how it plays.

Hi Chris that’s a great idea. I’ll plug some tone holes this weekend and give it a go see how it plays.

Worth checking whether it’s low pitch

I doubt it's as old as being from the early 1900s - it looks more like it's from the 1930s to 1950s and most likely Low Pitch.

With any old instrument, you have to justify if it's worth rebuilding. As it's a wooden clarinet and any intermediate level wooden clarinet (Buffet E11, Yamaha 450, etc) commands a fair price when bought new, then that's the VALUE of this clarinet as opposed to the purchase or sales price.

I wouldn’t put it any later than the mid 30s. It has the look of a 20s/30s instrument, but I would not rule out being just post 1900.
