I bought a nice Martin C clarinet, no rollers, and I have a question about the low F/C key, on the left in the photo. It sticks up very high. There is nt evidence that there was a tab on the other side to keep it from opening too far. And there is a protrusion underneath that depresses into a hole that may have had a hook on it to hold it from opening too far maybe? Also the other key, the G#/D# key hits the F/C key when depressed.
Anyone have thoughts on what these keys should work and look like?

Wow! I've been watching this thread for an answer - that's quite the key! Is that a modern ball-type pad in the photo?

The photo I posted is of a key from an earlier boxwood clarinet by Piatet of Lyons, but the mechanism is essentially the same. By the way, does your projecting spike perhaps have a thread on it?
The pad on mine is indeed modern – I don't know its source.

Fuzzy, my pads are new and modern. I replaced the unusable originals.
It also has wound string instead of corks, and a real 'C' mouthpiece, a rarity since most C clarinets have bores to accommodate an Eb or Bb mouthpiece.
Tony, the pin has what looks like a solder break, so the missing hook may have broken off a long time ago.
