 Strange R13 serial number
Author: Clarineteer

My friend has an R13 Bb with serial number B212XXX. Does anyone know what the B stands for. I know F prefix is European but I have never heard of a B prefix. All of the keys structures indicate an R13 model including cutouts under the crows foot. Thanks.

Never seen it on Buffet but on some makes it is used to indicate a Bb clarinet.

The following was in a post from a gentleman named Jack Kissinger back in December 2001, in a thread titled "Evette Serial Numbers":

"I have an 1981 R13 with a B prefix. I found out from Buffet, based on a search of their factory records, that they had inadvertently numbered two instruments with the same serial number. To distinguish them, they added a B prefix to mine."

I hope that helps.

Paul,
That makes perfect sense. Thanks for your help.
