 pad sticking

One of the large pads on the lower joint of my R13 A, the G#/D# pad, keeps falling out.

Per my normal practice, I heat the metal cup from the outside (with a lighter or match) and then hold the cup closed for a time. It usually works. But in this case it works temporarily. I've done it three times, and it holds for the rest of that practice session, but falls out the next time I play. I think the pad itself is fine.

Reading older threads indicates probably more is required, like removing the key, cleaning out the cup, putting fresh adhesive in, etc. If I try this, I'll probably try to go with shellac, as it sounds more forgiving if my virgin attempt fails.

Anyone got a link for suitable shellac, or advice on where it can be gotten, or any other advice?

Lokks like there isn't enough glue. I prefer hot melt glue over shellac. Also, Once the pad come out I just replace it. It's difficult to get the impression on the pad in the proper place.

Even with the hot glue Buffet use, their pads still drop out leaving the inside of the pad cup clean. So maybe there's some contamination with oil or grease preventing the hot glue from bonding.

So it's always best to degrease the pad cups before installing any pads to be sure the shellac or hot glue will bond to them.
