 Adjustable thumb rest
Author: kdk 2017

Does anyone know where to buy a good quality adjustable thumb rest for a Bb clarinet? Seems to me the repair supply places once carried them, but there isn't one listed at either Music Medic or Feree's.

The ones I see on Amazon (at about $8.00) don't look sturdy.

I want (after lo so many years) to replace the fixed thumb rest on my 10G with an adjustable one because of some issues I'm having (in my advancing age) negotiating passages with long RH B. I want to avoid the trial and error of moving the existing thumb rest if I can.

I routinely use the same one that comes on Jupiter clarinets. Very sturdy and it has a place to attach a strap. Not expensive either. It is in this listing though it doesn't mention the brand. The holes match a Buffet. I can't remember if Selmer
holes are the same.

Karl,

I recently had a very sturdy adjustable thumb rest installed on my Leblanc Concerto to replace the original, which broke. The work was done by Mike Hammer in Bensalem for about $80. Well worth it.

Mike does all of my repair work, but when I last asked about a replacement thumb rest he didn't often seem to have them on hand. I'll ask him about it again. He'd be the one I'd have put it on anyway.

Larry Frank of Frank Woodwinds also in Philadelphia will do the same job for a lot less.
