There's a weird vibration, not really a buzzing but it's really annoying and it's been going on for about two weeks now. It kind of sounds like it's coming from condensation but I have used every trick in the book to get excess condensation out and nothing's changed. Besides, it wouldn't last two weeks (right?). It's kind of on and off but the bottom line is I don't know what to do about it and it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?

It gets more prominent as I go up. It starts to get really audible on the middle range C.

It sounds like the buzz you get when there is a loose or torn skin on one pad. It's sometimes very difficult to pick which pad, as the tear is not always visible, but if you put a small piece of plastic food wrap (Gladwrap, Saran Wrap or similar) under each pad in turn it may help to isolate which. Also, look for such things as loose tenon or bell rings vibrating. Make sure the register tube is clear.

Get someone else to touch each key and other piece of hardware on the clarinet while you play. If something on the instrument other than a torn pad cover is vibrating, touching whatever is doing should stop it or at least change it.

Check that the silencing material (fish skin, etc) on the linkage of the left hand E/B and F#/C# keys is tight and there is no excess play. If there is any lost motion, the long left hand E/B or F#/C# key will slightly vibrate or buzz.

Two trill keys (the 4 side keys on the top section) may be touching ever so slightly.
