 winter

After rising at 5:30 a.m. to breakfast and fight an ongoing blizzard to get to work at 7:00 a.m., and after a long day at work, half of which involved doing work of people who couldn't make it in, and after fighting abysmal driving conditions and traffic to get home, and after an hour of blowing deep snow from the driveway and paths in frigid wind, and brushing snow off the other vehicles, and brushing snow off the propane tank (and checking the level), and after shoveling snow off the low roofs and raking snow off the high roofs (because more lovely snow is forecast,) and after sweeping snow off the porch and steps, and salting the steps, and after coming inside sweaty and sore with fingers numb, and after showering and piling together something to eat and checking the news and mail . . . guess what a 60-something ridiculous wannabe clarinet player doesn't feel like doing, come 8:40 pm?

I ended up practicing less than an hour, more for relaxation than anything else. A few melodies, some patterns, some made-up junk. Maybe it helped me sleep.

Philip: I feel your pain. We are putting up with some crap weather here in Ohio, also. And it depresses me to not play enough too...
Funny part is, during the Summer, I figured the dull, unproductive Winter months would be PERFECT for more practice on my clarinet, being stuck inside and all...
Imagine that. (There's probably ARMIES of slackers not playing enough out there.)
;)

Dave

This is a genuine signature.

San Diego had its first snow in decades a few weeks back. Didn't stick at lower altitudes - just melted on contact. Up north we just got rain and a few minutes of hail. Temperatures were in the 40s at their lowest. Lately it's been in the 60s or 70s.
You guys would probably laugh at even the worst weather here.

Well, you might notice the Santa Ana weather in the summer and fall months (bad for reeds!) Certainly not the "winter" weather though.

Philip, Sounds as though you are showing more dedication to the clarinet than a lot of people would under those circumstances. Don't be hard on yourself.

Vanessa.
