Adds for MPS. Old is better

I have seen ads for mouthpieces that claim to be modeled after ones from many years ago. Why? Isn't there any new ideas?

I suppose it's sort of like fashion. If you keep in your closet long enough, it'll come back around! (and sometimes more than once)

It could be that the acoustics of the clarinet and the mouthpieces created for them have been pretty much refined as much as one can for a very long time already.

It became clear back in the 70's that you could 'create' excitement about a 'new' barrel or 'new' mouthpiece and get your own piece of the market share pie (such as it is - NO one is getting filthy rich on selling to such a small market). I don't fault our latest entrepreneurs for making a living, only for clouding reality a little

Maybe the maker likes a particular vintage model so much he or she feels others would like it as well, nothing wrong about that.

Since I own one, I doubt it is a replica of a Selmer HS*... Some things *do* get better with progress...
