 Four Sea Interludes

I will be playing Britten's Four Sea Interludes next month and was looking for either parts or even decent excerpts. None of the excerpt books I own or am aware of seem to have this work and Boosey and Hawkes does not make available individual parts. Does anyone know of a source for this work? The piece has some quite difficult sections and I would not like to go into the first rehearsal cold. Both 1st & 2nd parts are important because the 2nd part is for Eb for two movements.

Did Britten write a separate arrangement of these pieces or did someone just select them without alteration from their original place in his opera Peter Grimes?
If you want the original, study scores of Peter Grimes (pub. by Hawkes) are available from many sources.

Four Sea Interludes from "Peter Grimes" (op. 33A) - according to JW Pepper, the study score (pub. Boosey) is out of print, though it appears in an anthology of Britten works.

A university library might well have the study score in their collection, though depending on their lending policy, you have to copy the relevant pages for your fair use.

They are at the NYPO Archive site.

I did find the New York Philharmonic sight and am now hand copying the parts from the online score. The Eb part in 6 sharps and high A's is going to be fun. Between that and two piccolos we should make a few ears bleed.

I had to sight read this in a conducting workshop, as "acting Principal" for the APO- though I didn't feel like much of a Principal when we got to the 2nd mvt (mostly because of the way the 16 notes are written, not beamed to indicate the beats). It's really great music though, i hope you enjoy it!
