 Theoretical effect of a shorter barrel?

If one were to replace a 66 mm barrel with a 65mm barrel, how much general pitch change could one hope for?

2nd question: Would reducing the length of a 66mm barrel by 2mm, that is, using a 64mm barrel, raise the general pitch by twice as much as using a 65mm barrel?

The actual effects of using a shorter barrel are more pronounced the higher up the instrument you go, so the left hand notes and especially the throat notes will be sharpened considerably compared to notes lower down the instrument which are only marginally sharpened - short barrels will not raise the pitch uniformly over the entire instrument.

A lot also depends on the length of the mouthpiece too. A long mouthpiece will help flatten the pitch compared to one that is shorter in length.
I'm currently using a 65 on my MoBa with a Hite mouthpiece. I find that this works well for me especially with the barrel being pulled out slightly.

Pull your existing barrel out 1 mm and 2 mm. The flattening you get will be near enough the same as the sharpening would be if you shortened it by the same amount.

2mm is the diff btw 440 and 442Hz on long pipe notes, but effect doubles for throat tones. The shortening of the barrel could be compensated by increasing bore, but it doesn't behave the same way as increasing length.

Increasing the length by pulling out a barrel increases the volume of airspace moreso than when you exchange for a longer barrel since you are allowing exposure to the otherwise hidden socket compartments. For this reason, use tone ring spacers (tuning rings) when pulling out a barrel for intonation measurements to be completely accurate.
