 ooo! Early Christmas Present!!!

Hee hee hee. My wife gave me an early christmas present today. And as I'm posting on this board, you can bet what it's related to! She wanted to get me a "nice and crappy metal clarinet" to learn to repad on and shine up and eventually turn into a lamp. And what a BEAUTY she got me!!!! It's an Andre Peron clarinet (made in france!) and looks like it came in the original case (smells like that nice old metal smell!) I have a feeling that that the clarinet will turn out to be a dud after it's repadded, and that was plan anyway (just to turn it into a lamp), BUT . . .

And here's the best part . . . .

It comes with an AWESOME reed case. It looks like it could've been the original reed case! (and probably some of the original reeds!). It holds six reeds, and has a cardboard cover. You flip open the cover and it has three spots for reeds. Fold that down, and there's spots for three more. But the best part is that the parts that hold the reeds are cloth with stitching to separate the reeds. Looks like it could be canvas. It's SO intriguing! The reed case has "Six Akademie Handmade Reeds" printed on it. It literally looks like a Matchbook, where the matches are replaced by reeds. AWESOME! That one is going on display!

Also, it came with an old metal lyre. "A.P.&M. Co" written on it inside a diamond. Probably also original (I'm thinking "Andre Peron" for A.P.).

And lastly, the mouthpiece. No names, no markings that I can tell aside from "France" at the bottom just to the right of the table. Rails look like they're in GREAT shape considering it looks like it hasn't been played or even touched in MANY years. Plenty of scratches on the mpc but only two scratches on the table.

All in all, a GREAT buy by the wife! My goal is to fix it up, and break it out in one of the clarinet quartet gigs in the future. I won't use it, but I can't wait to see the other members' reactions. Especially the leader. He knows how I collect way too much clarinet stuff.

Alexi

PS - Pictures to follow.
