Ain't the Internet grand ???
Author: Mark Charette
Date: 2000-10-25 04:28

This is great. Here I am, a thousand or so miles from Sneezy & home, and I'm able to connect & keep track of all my Internet friends. What a way to make the world smaller & more friendly!

Mark Charette, writing from Austin, Texas (and going to bed soon - interview tomorrow :^)

Try to go and enjoy the Japanese garden while in Austin. It's beautiful and relaxing.

Mark,

Interviewing? Could central Texas clarinetists be so lucky as to have you consider relocating to our fair city?

Y'all so rite, Mark. Be careful. Austin traffic was fierce, on our last trip to San "Tone" , its also the Silicon Valley of Texas. Did you get your "10 gallon cowboy hat"?? Don

Why thank you! There's a very good chance now that I will start working Austin very soon. I'll still live in Detroit, though, because of kids in school, etc. (2 weeks Austin, 1 week Detroit, indefinitely).

Sure is pretty where this office is located - right off of N. Capital of Texas Highway. When the sun came out of the haze yesterday the view was glorious!

Traffic? Austin? C'mon now - that little bit of rush hour in Austin t'aint nuthin compared to what I'm used to :^)

A little note to my friends - I'll be taking the job in Austin, but my residence will remain Detroit. Some "nightmare-ish" logistics having 2 homes nearly a thousand miles apart, but the job looks to be challenging and fun. I'll be getting a small apartment on the NW side of town for my Austin base.

You all know about this before my current boss does :^)

The chances are really really, slim, and I'm telling him on Monday anyway ... :^)

Now I figure I'll hear all the bad stuff about Austin!

NAW. we might have a few things to say about the football team, but that, too, changes from year-to-year. A GREAT TOWN with an upbeat community. If you don't have one, ya better get yerself a Dell ! :-) mw

Nope - getting an IBM (especially considering the company founders are out of the IBM lab in Austin :^)

Congratulations Mark! Your arrival to town would be an excellent for all of us Austin area clarinetists to get together to talk shop, or if that sounds too boring, then perhaps we could always introduce a few cold beers to the equation.

Mark,

You've got to take some time off (at least an afternoon) in February to go to the TMEA convention in San Antonio. I'll let you know the exact dates later. Fabulous exhibits! Perhaps we can meet there and go "exhibiting".

San Antonio is not the Sillicon Valley of Texas! Dallas is! over 100,000 technology companies in the DFW Metroplex, and it is the home of Telecomm Corridor.
