 Need help identifying Barrel

Some time back I ran across what I was told was a (Bonade?) high quality mouthpiece. I have also seen others that were marked "Superieure".

I just acquired an OLD BARREL <thats subjective, I was born in 1952! :-) > that is marked (exactly) as follows:

"FRANCE"

It has beautiful wood. Unfortunately, it has a couple of exterior (vertical) cracks, but the inside bore is untouched.

Just curious. Thanks.

I'm afraid a "FRANCE" stamp isn't enough to identify the maker of a barrel.

I think Bonade mouthpieces have always been machine-made, without hand finishing. The ones I've tried have been OK but not exceptional.

"Superieure" by itself doesn't itentify a mouthpiece. However, "Qualite Superieure" running up the body of a mouthpiece to the right of the table (viewed with the table up) was stamped on the best Chedeville blanks.

Best regards.

The Bonades that I've seen were all Chedeville blanks, but not all of them were good blanks. (Even Chedeville made some dogs.) The last few Bonades that I've seen were excellent.

Well, I've never seen anything like this barrel. Of course, I have seen the word FRANCE many, may times over. Yet, I have never seen the word France in quotation marks. This implies to me that it is a (specific) MODEL made by a manufacturer. Who that is, is presently unknown to me. I have some feelers out & will report what I find. The mouthpieces marked Qualite Superieure that I have tried have been very nice, indeed. Ditto the few Bonades I have tried recently. Of course, thats for me & my setup ... someone else may find that these mouthpieces perform poorly for them. DSFDF. mw
