Thank you for all your input.

I found a local retailer who rented to me a new Yamaha YCL 250 for $48.00 US for 4 1/2 months.

At the end of the rental period, if I opt to purchase the YCL 250 [or the YCL 450], the rental money will be deducted from the price of the purchased clarinet.

Amazingly, when I showed them the internet price of a new clarinet [WW & BW], they said they would match it.

The method I opted to start learning with is the "Dr. Downing" approach -from the UK.
