 JTL Antique Clarinets
Author: Cindyr

I've recently acquired a pair of Jerome Thibouville A and B Albert system antique clarinets. They are in beautiful condition. I'm unsure of their age, no serial numbers, the A clarinet has"Jerome Thibouville-Lamy," 10 Charterhouse Street, LC? 1London, Made in Paris, Class B, on the bell. The B clarinet has the same JTL name, but no London address, Paris, with a "9K", Mereote, on the bell. The B is stamped with a "e4" and the A and "H," which I assume means high pitch. Any information that anyone could provide me with helping to identify the age of these clarinets would be appreciated. The previous owner said he thought they were made about 1880. Research that I've already done on this sight seems to confirm that may be right.

Also, should I try to give them a bore oil treatment, and if so, is there anything to consider before proceeding? I don't see any visible cracks, but the bell on one appears dry. The bells and barrels are stuck on, but they do come apart at the center tenons. They have been repadded, so I want to be careful in anything I do with oil.

Thanks for any assistance.
