What reeds are most appropriate for music styles like classical, jazz, etc.?

You always have to match the moutpiece to the reed, and vice versa. I use a softer reed for jazz, but I also use a more open mouthpiece. This allows me to bend notes further and play a wider vibrato then my classical set-up (my true love), but I sacrifice some of the carrying power I get with my stiffer set-up. This really doesn't matter as I'm always miked in Jazz but seldom miked in classical work.
When I had to march outdoors I went with a very stiff reed as it was less sensitive to changing pitch when you step on a rough spot (or get kissed if you're doing the Savannah St. Paddy's Day parade). The trick with that, particularly if you're in a military band where clarinets matter, is to practice intensely in order to produce that will stay rock-solid for the entire parade route.

It all depends. Personally I use Vandoren V-12's for my classical type work, and 56 Rue Lepic's for my Jazz/Klezmer type work. But that's just what i like. Go with what you think is best for you.

I use Vandoren V12 reeds for classical and Vandoren V12 reeds for jazz. For stuff that are not standard classical or jazz (which is 90% of what I'm playing) I use Vandoren V12 reeds.

For jazz of the more traditional variety, fully acoustic, no microphones - try a Rico Royal 3+1/2 together with a Vandoren 5JB. It's the only way I can get myself heard over 5 other blokes...........and.........I like the tone of this combo too.

For me,
Classical- VD 56 #3.5+ or Oliveri Elite #3.5 on Grabner/Hill. VD 56s for band/ensemble, for a chamber/solo Oliveri Elite.
Jazz- regular Oliveri #3 on Selmer C95 119. I heard selmer stoped making C95s, but the CP100s are pretty similar. Big full sound, rediculous projection, real touchy in the altissimo though.
