 Reed, Cane, Shortage?

I ordered eight boxes of Zonda reeds from Weiner in November. When they hadn't arrived a month later I checked with them and found out some of the strengths were on backorder, so I substituted a strenghth they had and they shipped the order.

Since then I've been checking WWBW web page and find that many of the common strengths of Zonda and Gonzales reeds are on backorder there as well.

Was there a natural disaster in the Zonda Pass in Argentina? Did Santa buy up all the available reeds? Are Powell and Davie going the way of Morree?

Should I be looking for other reeds for the future, or is it anticipated that the Zonda backorders will eventually clear?

Never fear, we're not going anywhere. We had a huge shipment get lost somewhere between Argentina and Miami, thus creating an enormous backorder situation for us here. Production of Gonzalez reeds is more time consuming due to the amount of hands-on work employed. Thus, replacements took a bit of time to arrive. As it stands right now, almost all of our backorders have been filled and we're expecting this next order, when it arrives, to completely catch up all od our dealers across North America.

If anybody wants to donate $250,000 we'll be able to stock enough to never run out ever again! (stop laughing......) Too bad Bill Gates isn't a clarinet player.

"Too bad Bill Gates isn't a clarinet player."

No no that's good, because he'd probably make a Microsoft Clarinet that would simply stop working at unexpected intervals. It would not be compatible with old music and would need frequent updating.

Brilliant - I nearly choked over my breakfast reading that! :)

...the Microsoft Clarinet has encountered a problem and needs to be put back in its box for a while. Anything you have learnt while playing it will not be saved......that'll teach you for not installing your critical updates!
