 Selmer Literature wrong

I attended a Selmer Clarinet Workshop a month ago which had pamphlets from Selmer about their Clarinet line.

It had the 10G Clarinet listed as 1984 being introduced in their brochure.

It was 74, not 84 - bet Gigliotti rolled in his grave on that one!

 French to English proofing...

It's probably a function of having the PR stuff written in French, and only then translated into the English language. Their overall "history" of the company reeks of the typical "transliteration errors" (stuff like misused metaphors, terminology confusion, and the like), and it's possible that the proofer didn't catch it when skimming the English text.

What overcomes the language problems with the Selmer materials are the photographs that they take to accompany them. The website has a collection of these that are there for the viewing, and all are done in an extremely "artsy" fashion.

I have the shot of the baritone sax crook on my seldom used work computer as a "backdrop", and it provokes no end of questions as to "What is THAT?"

Apparently, Mr. Gigliotti is not rolling in his grave. According to Selmer, he is still available as a Selmer artist and clinician.

He was an incredible teacher, but I never really thought of him as a Jedi Master that could reach from beyond the grave to help us use the Force (or at least to use reed rush...).

I have pointed this out to their marketing department a couple times now to no avail. Maybe I'll just request a workshop with Mr. G and see how long it takes them to figure it out.

Bob Berg is also listed as a current clinician.

I'm sure that is news to his widow...GBK

Southern Music has a nice obit. for Dave Hite on their website. At least they did the right thing.
