 Buffet Bass Cases

I got a Buffet Prestige bass clarinet about half a year ago, and have been very happy with it. I have noticed though that the neck moves around some while in the case....it hasn't bounced around so much that it has become damaged or damaged the bell, but I am wondering if putting a little piece of foam in with it would be a good idea, to keep the piece more stationary. Has anyone else with the case/instrument experienced something similar?

BTW, I have heard that the older 1193 cases caused the main instrument parts to move around more than the newer cases. However, the repair person who told me this said I have the newer/better case.

All the parts of my Prestige low C fit securely in my case and do not seem to move around tto much. I do spread an old (clean) kitchen towel inside the case over the instrument parts and keep my cloth swabs (one for the bore, the other for the neck) spread out on top of it so that they dry after use(s). This may also help keeps things from knock'n around while being carried from "here to there". However, there does seem to be a lot of unwanted movement in the assessories compartment, so I keep my (Walter Grabner) mouthpiece in a small pouch to prevent it from being damaged by shifting screw drivers, etc. Over all, I am satisfied with the Buffet case, but I am intreged by the Weissman oval cases and plan to look into one (no pun intended, really) during my next excursion to IMS.

Bottom line with any case: you need to be careful when carrying it so as not to damage the valuable cargo inside.

Those Seagrams VO bags do come in handy...
