Hello all,
I had the pleasure of hearing David Shifrin for the first time when he appeared with the RI Philharmonic last Saturday night. The orchestra did a Stravinsky suite and Beethoven's 4th. Shifrin played K.622 with his bassett horn.
What moved me about the performance was Shifrin's laid-back, almost lack of staccato style of playing the piece. It was a much mure fluid interpretation than, say, Sabine Meyer's version with the Dresden State Orchestra and Hans Vonk.
Is there a recording of K.622 that is a particular favorite? How does Shifrin's interpretation stand up to the all-time recordings?
BTW, I spoke with him briefly after the concert. He was as congenial and pleasant as could be.
