Whats your take if any on the old Harrison ligature (gold)?
Not the retro one coming out from Rico.

can you supply a link to a picture?
My understanding is that it has a concave area to nestle the reed and perhaps a single screw to tighten....like some sax ligs.

I had a gold plated vintage Harrison lig. Sold if after playing it for 3-4 months. Found it over rated. Was OK, but the Vandoren Optimum, Oligature, and any number of regular two screw metal ligs much better.
My personal favorite right now is the Boosey Hawkes. The old one with the BH "cut out" on the outside, or front. And it looks "cool" too. Have one you want to get rid of let me know.

I worked with Harrison many years ago, trying to persuade him to strengthen the "H" design so they wouldn't break as easily. He made some minor improvements, and sent me a few for Bass Clarinet and Eb Clarinet ligatures. I still use them on those two horns.
They record well and have never given me any problems with the reinforced "H" breaking. On the other hand, he never got around to really fixing the problem with the standard Bb/A ligature, so I don't use any of the ones he sent that were "improved."
I do recommend using the improved Bass & Eb Harrisons, if you can find them, but stay away from the regular Clarinet ones, as they break under heavy use at all the wrong times!

Is there a problem with the new "Grand Concert" lig based on the Harrison? I was hoping it may have solved the weakness problem. Does anyone use it?
