 Which Posts Have I Read?
Author: Gordon (NZ)
Date:   2003-03-01 11:00

In this forum there is a system for determining which threads have had new posts added since I was last here, but when I click on this thread, and scroll down the posts, is there any way apart from memory for identifying which of the posts are the new ones.

Not at the moment (unless you always use threaded view, in which case the color of the links will tell you).

I cannot find where there is an explanation of what 'threaded' view means. If I click it it makes your above post invisible!

Well - usually the links to the posts are blue and if you have read them recently they will be black. If things are disappearing, something is wrong with your computer........

I see. No computer problem....

If I click "threaded view' to achieve "flat view", the posts don't disappear, they merely become headings, except for the original post.

I'll keep a look out for the colours.

click on "mark all read" at the bottom of the home page (where all the subject titles are)

That is something different.

It gets rid of the "new" tags and treats all the threads as if they are old, and the action seems to be irreversible! $%#*! Exactly what I DIDN'T want. :-)

Start from the earliest "new" (last on the list) and work your way up. The "new" works on last read date/time.

Whoops - if you meany "mark all read" it does exactly that! It catches all the threads "up".

gordon--mark all read doesn't get rid of the new tags. it makes it black if you've already read it, but if there's been a new post, it says new.

No - mark all read gets rid of all the current "new" tags. Only posts coming in after you hit the "mark all read" will appear as new.
