This may be a silly question, but why is the English edition of the Langwill Index by Lyndesay G. Langwill and the American Edition by
William Waterhouse?

Not quite right. Lyndesay Graham Langwill started the Langwill Index. It went through 6 editions (the first being in 1960, last being the 6th in 1980). He passed away in September 1983.

William Waterhouse continued the Langwill Index as The New Langwill Index. The 1st edition was in 1993. AFAIK there's no 2nd edition yet.

So, if you're looking at a Langwill Index, be aware that it is very outdated.
