My wife and I played it a couple of years ago. It's pretty demanding technically in both parts. If you and your partner are proficient in the Cavallini studies you should go for it. It's a blast to play with a little tongue and cheek mixed in. The piano part is not too bad.

Il Convegno is a great virtuoso display piece. You have to throw caution to the winds. Done right (as on a fairly recent Gervase de Peyer CD on Radiant Mastery), it sparkles like champagne.

Done with even a little circumspection, it's flat beer.

Best regards.

The Amilcare Ponchielli, "Il Convegno" is a brilliant and exciting "piece of popcorn" suitable for most any venue. However, played very well, I'd have to categorize it as advanced and not for the faint of heart. From what I recall there's a lot of flying fingers/arpeggios, wide interval leaps and odd tonguing patterns. Mostly it demands a great deal of "listening", matching of unison octaves and musical partnership. The only saving grace is I believe it's in Eb concert and lays well on the horn. v/r KEN
