Oooh, good one!
J. Doe --
Based on the evidence of Mr. Charette's postings here (and a couple of personal e-mail replies to my questions) I would strongly have to disagree with you. But if that's how you feel, why waste your time (and ours) here?

Probably got turned down for lone gunman camp, again.
Posters like that give chicken-hearted anonymous posters a bad name.

I'm not afraid to admit that I have a little arrogance. I think that we all have it in common. I think most of us know how to constrain it, or be civil and tactful. Heck, I may even be an egocentric snob. I wouldn't put it past myself. Oh, enough about me.
J.Doe,
When in anothers house it is polite to honor the wishes of the host. Mark is the host and if you don't like his "housekeeping" then go visit someone else. BTW, have a nice trip.

Anyone with abundant intelligence and superior knowledge can often come across as snobish or arrogant. I too have not met Mark C (one day perhaps) but I think he's fair - end of story. Sometimes I don't agree with his comments, but hey ... he's entitled to them and if you don't like them, find another soap box.

If Mark really IS arrogant (which he isn't on this board), then he has the right. Who lese would have the patience to run this BB?
Now let's stop feeding the trolls.

Not only does Mark keep it going, he does it so unobtrusively that most of the time one is quite unaware that there is a moderator working in the background. If that describes an arrogant and egocentric individual, I will eat my acubra hat. Karel.

J. Doe may have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) (the syndrome of the decade). Individuals afflicted with BPD tend to verbally lash out at innocent people for no reason at all. And of course those with BPD feel they are totally justified for all they do. So.....

I could understand how mark c. could come off as arogant. Some of the posts he puts up on here aren't the nicest. Yet for the most part they don't seem dishonest. I was watching the "other half" on NBC the other morning and they had a guy on there who was a phycologist and with a book i believe was callled "brutally honest". It's a book that is sopposed to promote being honest not matter how offensive it can get. Because in the long run you are better off for it. I think mark c. is just very honest and says it like it is and that is why people here have a lot of respect for him.

I am a frequent lurker on this board and an occasional poster. Mark didn't like the way I made a post once and contacted me. I mended my ways and enjoyed the off forum cheat we had. I didn't detect any arrogance.
What did bother me a bit is that no one bothers to change the subject so when you look at the thread you see that gooney statement repeated 29 times! If you disagree then why repeat it?

Should one glean from the preceding discourse that being arrogant, egocentric and a snob is not a good thing? If that is the case I shall have to make a serious effort to change my ways.
To the disturbed (and disturbing) Mr. Doe,
I myself have been accused many times in life of possessing these same qualities of arrogance, egocentricity and snobbery. They are personality traits that have served me well. However, I usually refer to them in the following terms:
self-confidence
self-awareness
discretion
The very existence of this forum, in which you choose to cast aspersions upon Mr. Charette's character, serves as proof that your logic is horribly flawed and that you may be lacking in the qualities I listed above. Pardon me if I choose not to wallow in your gutter of despair and self-pity. I can tell you with relative certainty that Mark is none of things you claim. I can "smell" my own kind (truly egocentric, arrogant snobs)at twenty paces, even through cyberspace, and Mark is not among us. Mark always impresses me as being remarkably even-tempered, rational, solicitous,in fact he seems to be downright KIND! Would that you possessed such qualities but alas you most obviously do not, more's the pity.
Mores the pity.

Beg your pardon for weighing in again, If Mark was as egocentirc and arrogant as JD states, he would have removed this thread after the first post. Instead, here it is wasting space on the server!
Just IMHO, Terry
BTW, Mark, thanks for the years of monitoring this forum, I know what a pain that can be.

I don't care IF Mark IS arrogant...although, I have not seen anything but sophistication, helpfulness and education behind his postings. He casted us the wonderful BB, and I'm grateful! I'll bet that he plays a good clarinet, as well. I'd love to meet Mark Charette. I do believe that he would be quite a gentleman in person. (I won't stick around to see if he snores.)

hello BOB (up top with what appears to be a pseudo german accent)
i get the feeling you were trying to be funny, but this is an INTERNATIONAL thing, y'know. Maybe you are MCs best friend and you happen to know that his parents are German or something and it's a joke between you two...
i don't want to make a huge scene... i not trying to create flames out of nothing (even assuming i "got your message" right, it really wasn't very offensive on a scale of 1-10) but actually i'd like to go down on record as saying most germans i have met do not behave like a character out of an old hollywood WW2 film. i've met and like a lot of them.
they also get unbearably SICK AND TIRED of the fact that everyone can say "gott in Himmel, die englisher pig" but can't pronounce "Bach" correctly.
oh no, maybe i've totally got it wrong- maybe YOU are german and you're making fun of yourself? (in which case, a German name at the end of the message would help).
not big deal, but this IS the 21st century.

Oy vey...if I'm not mistaken...is Yiddish...seems to me Bob was imitating a crotchety old New York-type Jewish person...
I didn't read it as German at all...
Now if you ARE a New York-type Jewish person...by all means, take offense...

I would like to personally thank Mr. charette for creating this site. He also does a good job in keeping people on topic..in spite of my own insip meandering at times. I think this is a grreeat place to learn and enjoy all the diffent thoughts of players of amny ranks. Back when I started there was nothing like this...kids today are lucky to have such a neat clarinet site. who has a better one?
