Any fellow clarinet players in the Washington DC area on this bulletin board? Would like to contact for sharing of info, tips, music and potential musical collaboration. Thanks.

If this would be of any interest or help, I met a lot of good musicians--and clarinetists--last summer when I sat-in for a rehearsal with the City of Fairfax Concert Band. If I were a full-time resident of the DC area, this is a band that I would seriously consider joining. They were directed by a former US Navy director and the second chair clarinetist was also formerly with that very fine service group. They played quite musically, for the size of the ensemble, and were most friendly to me, a visiting musician. FYI--I played about fifth chair second and had a marvelous evening. There are numerous other musical groups in the DC area, but the City of Fairfax Band is, IMHO, the best--excluding of course, the "Presidents Own" US Marine Band, the absolute best band in this world (as well as the other US service bands stationed in DC). Hope this is of some help.....Good Clarineting!!!!!!

The City of Fairfax Band is a fine band. However, if you want to play with them, it may be diffcult to join. Last time I checked, there was a waiting list for newcomers to join the clarinet section. I added my name to the list 3-4 years ago and have not heard back from them. There are other ensembles in the DC area. You'll find something!

I guess you've heard all the fine European, British, New Zeland and Australian bands to make a comparison?

And maybe some of the fine Indian, Japanese, Malaysian, Singaporean, and other Asian/Subcontinent bands, eh, diz?

Not to mention the Middle East, Africa, and a number of other places where old colonial system left its mark.

I'm (part-time) in the City of Fairfax Band, just played a concert with them last night -- yes, it's hard to get in --- first time I've ever had to get onto a WAITING LIST to SUB in an UNPAID COMMUNITY BAND! Good group, though. Another DC-area group I'm in that could probably use a few good players is the Riverside Wind Symphony based in Sterling, Virginia -- please contact me off-line if you're interested.

If youre closer in to DC or in DC, DC Different Drummer's can always use clarinets. We have a symphonic band, marching band, swing band and pep band. We played a tough concert clarinet wise this spring including Pineapple Poll, Jupiter/Holst, Plato's Cave, and March Symphonic Metamorphosis/Hindemith. We're also toying with a clarinet choir. Info on the org. is at http://www.dcdd.org

On the Maryland side of the Potomac you have the Rockville Band, the Montgomery College Wind Ensemble (students and community players), Montgomery Villiage Band, Columbia Community Band and probably a half dozen others I've forgotten.
