Noblet A - pros and cons
Author: Lori

I have a chance to buy a Noblet A for a good price. Anybody have any comments about these A clarinets? Specifically, do you know of any big weaknesses or strengths?

Lori,

I have dealt with four different Noblet "A" clarinets over the past few months. All of them were very good players, and one was particularly nice. These Noblet's are a terrific value for the money.

Strengths: All had very good intonation and produced a rich dark tone. The overall quality of the wood and finish is excellent. I also thought the hand position was comfortable.

Most had the playing resistance typical of an "A" clarinet. The nice one played more like a Bb.

Weaknesses: My only complaint was the dynamic range. The range wasn't bad, but I wanted them to play a bit louder. I experimented with different barrels and it helped.
