I went to a performance of "Der Rosenkavalier", one of my favourite opera, at the Paris Opera last night. Although I know the score by heart, this is always a renewed wonderful moment to listen to it live. Since I started to play the clarinet only a few months ago, I had a chance to pay a closer attention to the clarinet section, which I had never done before, and clearly Dr Strauss did great to the cause of our beloved instrument, asking contribution from almost the entire family (from Eb to bass), and what wonderfull soli did we have! Richard Strauss is really a magician when it comes to orchestration, but this, I knew already. Nietzsche was right, without music, life would not be worth living.
May the music be with you!
