hi hi!
Does anyone know of any concertos written for two clarinets, i believe that Krommer wrote one, but im not sure, my friend and I would like to audition for our youth orchestra's concerto competition with one
any info would be appreciatied!!!

carmen.........There is the Poulanc sonata for 2 clarinets
ps.......if you can obtain a coy of Oppermans repertoire for clarinet, it will have every piece written for clarinet up to about the mid 60's. I believe it is out of print......but search......

Dennis...Get thee to a copy of Groves and check the definition of SONATA and CONCERTO.
The Poulenc would not be applicable to be performed for a youth orchestra concerto competition.
Also...the Opperman "Repertory of the Clarinet" was excellent when it was first published (1960), but now is terribly outdated. Much literature has since been added and many publishers, etc... have now changed or music is no longer available. The Sneezy database or the ICA library hold more up-to-date information...GBK

Krommer wrote two concertos for 2 clarinets, the opus 35 and opus 91.
Mendelssohn wrote two concertpieces for clarinet, bassett horn and orch. There is a transcription for two clarinets and piano. They are fun.

Teleman wrote a two clarinets concert, too... his piece is very great, and one of the first piece wrote in the clarinet literatura (sorry, my english is not very good)

Carmen,
I have a CD with 2 concertos for 2 clarinets by Rossini. These are wonderful virtuoso pieces and I will give you the references later (the CD is not with me as I am writing).
Actually, the Rossini's fatherhood on the works are doubtful as it was quite common at the time for Clarinet virtuoso to write those works with the help and blessing of a famous composer, the reason being that the performers were short with such pieces. Nevertheless, these still remains wonderful pieces for 2 clarinets and orchestra.

Also there's the Ponchielli "Il Convegno" for 2 clar. and orch. (or piano). It's not technically a concerto, but it is about 10 minutes long. It sounds like some duet aria from some Donizetti opera or something. Kind of ridiculous. My teacher performs that piece all of the time. It has some nice technical passages, too.

As I recall, the "Rossini's" are on an Orfeo recording by Dieter Klocker. He is somewhat notorious for guarding his "discoveries" jealously so I doubt you will be able to find even the solo parts, let alone the orchestral parts.
