Laurie, because we're all human, everyone, at various points in their lives, feels fear. Even those who are deemed "courageous" feel this emotion but have "learned" how to go forward while feeling the effects of fear.
You have received some excellent advice in the above postings.
What could I possibly add??? Life is very unpredictable. You may choose a so called "safer" location only to have a serious "mishap" take place there!!!
You said that you "love NYC" and that it has "wonderful music schools". I sense that you already know what the answer is.
Follow your dreams...go for the best.
I sense that you just needed some reassurance and hopefully you've received enough to continue forward with your plans.
If you don't do the try-outs in NYC, you may wind up later on feeling very sorry that you didn't.
