 Is this a crack?
Author: Eileen Pahl

I have a new E11. I just noticed something that is either a crack or a groove for a spring at the bottom of the top joint just left of the trill keys. Do other people's E11's have this? I hope I'm just being paranoid.

Rest easy, sounds like the GROOVE which takes the Eb/Bb side trill key's spring.

"just left" looking down the Joint from the Top of the U/J or looking UP from the Bottom of the U/J --- my answer was predicated on the LATTER .. ]]

ps this Spring is a FLAT spring, and like most flat springs, has a "foundation" in the body of the clarinet; whereas, the other Springs attach to keys from Posts. mw

If a wooden clarinet develops a crack, what can be done about it?
I have a plastic instrument, so I dont know a lot about the nature of wooden ones.

Many cracks can be repaired. If it is a brand new instrument, it should have a warranty for a period of time against cracking or the manufacturer will replace it or repair it for free -- depending on how long you have owned the horn.
