Author: Mario
Date: 2001-08-15 20:29

Hello:

ClarinetFest is now in full swing (pun fully intended). If any of you out there has the time to browse this site, do not be shy to give us an account of whatever extraordinary events are taking place.

Wish I was there.

No surprise that the board doesn't appear to be as busy as usual, huh?

Do not dispare,

when the attendees return there should be plenty of traffic.

Wish I were there, too.

I had all my arrangements to go until I broke my arm :( I'll have to wait for Vegas.

I'm fairly new to this board and have been watching comments about clarinetfest. For amateur, mediocre players is there enough of interest there to justify the trip? Is there going to be a fest in Las Vegas next year? I need to plan 6 months in advance to get time off, when is it going to be?

Terry,
Having never been, I cannot answer the question of interest. However, I would assume that if you like clarinet(s) and the performers there of, and you enjoy the conviviality that goes along with such an event, you bound to love it -- probably more fun than a dental convention, especially in New Orleans. I went to a funeral director's convention once (don't ask -- I'm not a funeral director) and a clarinet fest is bound to be more lively -- pun intended [:)

I undersatnd that Las Vegas in 2003 is a rumor at this point (maybe it will be more definate after the current convention).

As far as next year, I'm sure it is Stocholm.

Jerry,

How did you know I have been there (Hilton Hotel in New Orleans) for a pediatric dental convention? I went up to see Pete in his place... figured to get there an hour early and stand in line. Ended up in a long line and the last one to get in for the evening's performance. I was amazed, I was ushered down to the front table and got the best seat! A fellow at the table wanted to know how much I had to slip the mait're de to get the best seat in the house, he had dropped a $50 bill to get at my table. Turns out the folks before me got way up at the rear (behind a pole I think) and I got the last seat... the one the guy at the door was saving in case someone had a $100 bill burning a hole in his pocket!

The show was great, lots of tunes from Pete's albums. Pete sauntered in and joined his group for two songs and then dissappeared! Got to see that Le Blanc he uses (this was back in around 1988), but was dissapointed to only hear and see Pete for two songs... not as dissapointed as the $50 guy.

As I recall you have to wait in a long line, pay admission, buy expensive drinks, then also give a good size bribe (if you are not very lucky!) if you plan on going to Petes' . That was back then, I don't even know if he is still playing there now.

Terry
