Hi,

I have trouble with over-sensitivity to almost everything, but I don't have that one yet. (Thank goodness).

However, I understand that the nervous systems of people are set up in two parts, a left half and a right half. I know that because one of my friends at University had an unusual conditon where the two halves of her nervous system weren't working right together. Her eyes were two different colours and if she blushed, she only turned pink on one half of her face. That might be part of why you have different sensations on the two different sides.

I'm pretty certain that if you wanted to ask for professional advice on that, then the person to ask would be a neurologist.

If a neurologist is hard to get hold of, you could also ask a dentist. I bet they know an absolute truck load of information about how the nerves in your lips are set up. There are a couple of dentists on here, I think, who might be able to help.

I can also explain a few bits that have helped me in case it's any use.

When I see people to ask about sensory over-sensitivity, they always tell me that I have an underlying tendency to sensory sensitvity and that stress/anxiety makes it much worse.

I recently bought a thing called and Oura Ring (https://ouraring.com/) which is one of these wearable health trackers. It showed that I don't sleep deeply enough because I am too wired to sleep properly. I have been practising calming down (not looking at the news basically). It does make literally everything much better overnight, which is very nice. I have to work at it though because one bad news headline can put me right off track again.

Good luck and I hope you manage to find a fix for it.

Jen
