"Needless to say, it's not because they make good oboes that they necessarily make good clarinets. Marigaux makes fine oboes, but were unsuccessful with the clarinet they made in the 80s."
Needless to say, it wasn't that Marigaux, Howarth and others were 'unsuccessful' in making clarinets as they made excellent clarinets, it's simply because they couldn't compete with the brand popularity of Buffet.
