I'm currently trialing a Noblet 40, and I have a question about aftermarket barrels. I have access to (borrowing) a Buffet RC that has a Backun 41.5 barrel. I thought I would be able to try that barrel on the Noblet to see what it would do for the tuning/tone, but it doesn't fit. None of the Buffet barrels fit (they are extremely loose, as in they would fall right off if I turned it upside down).
Does that mean the Noblet is a "Selmer" fit in the Backun barrels? From what I have read it shouldn't be. I am concerned that it might limit my ability to try aftermarket barrels on this horn. Or is it just that it needs a much thicker cork in order to try it? The barrel it came with fits fine. It seems like it is a 41 mm just gauging from comparing it to the Buffets, but it runs quite sharp.

sharp is better than being flat which is the issue i have with 2 of my eb,s. you can always get a barrel made for the noblet but will be $. i found a deg barrel for my bundy and its a perfect fit . you might get lucky this way but with out being able to try first -its a roll of the dice

I use a standard Backun 40.5 mm barrel on my Noblet Artist Eb. The fit, as you described, was very loose. For trial purposes, I placed a slightly oversized cork and I was prepared to do a more permanent fix if I liked the barrel. That was 6 or 7 years ago and I never did anything more to it. The fit is tight, with no wobble. I am very happy with the barrel.
My Eb only gets occasional pit use, maybe averaging 20 - 25 performances a year. If it was being used more frequently, a more permanent fix may have become necessary.

If the Selmer fit is the same as the Bundy then it should also fit the Noblet.
For reference the socket on a Buffet barrel is 20.75mm and Bundy/Noblet are around 20.3mm. Why barrel makers do not list these dimensions is beyond me.

Thanks for the replies. I heard from the guy I purchased it from that he used a Selmer fit on this particular horn, so I will try that. It's weird how non-standard they are. In the meantime I can try putting teflon on and trying the really loose barrel. Is it just the tenon that is different on these barrels (not the bore itself)?
